“Every building must have… its own soul.”
– LOUIS KAHN –
MATERIALITY
Materiality in architecture is the concept of, or applied use of, various materials or substances in the medium of building.
Materials, incorporated into architecture and interiors, give a soul to every building and its spaces : The veining of marble, depth and richness of wood, sheen of metal, intricate texture of textiles, patterns of wall and floor coverings all contribute to the medium of building.
